ACP’s Continuous Professional Learning Resources
ACP MKSAP℠
This year saw the exciting release of ACP MKSAP℠ (Medical Knowledge Self-Assessment Program℠), a new subscription-based, all-digital version of our comprehensive learning program. MKSAP has been the most trusted resource in continuous learning for internal medicine physicians for nearly 60 years. That tradition continues with ACP MKSAP.
Developed by nearly 400 physician clinical editors, question writers, and peer reviewers who are active in clinical practice and expert leaders in medical education, ACP’s psychometrically validated question bank uses evidence-based question-writing principles to challenge clinical reasoning and reinforce learning. Learners can select a 1-year or 3-year subscription and will receive regularly updated content and new questions added annually.

ACP MKSAP subscribers can meet their goals with numerous learning innovations on a modern interface. Our comprehensive web page provides details on all of the features of ACP MKSAP.
ACP MKSAP CORE (Confirmation of Relevant Education)™
This year also saw the additional launch of a new ACP MKSAP feature, ACP MKSAP CORE (Confirmation of Relevant Education)™. ACP MKSAP CORE is a high-quality learning and knowledge assessment feature consisting of evidence-based, psychometrically validated, clinically relevant question sets.
Physicians may answer CORE question sets to demonstrate, verify, and provide evidence of their maintenance of education and learning achievement based on a professionally standardized passing threshold. Physicians who achieve a threshold of ACP MKSAP learning engagement unlock access to 12 ACP MKSAP CORE quizzes encompassing 300 additional assessment questions. Successful ACP MKSAP CORE participants receive a digital badge after passing individual quizzes. Learners can earn and print a shareable ACP MKSAP CORE certificate for inclusion in their professional portfolio once they have received any 10 badges.

The new ACP MKSAP CORE feature is one way ACP is responding to requests from internal medicine physicians for new ways to recognize their dedication to continual learning and assessment and to document their achievements in keeping up with changes in medical knowledge. The new ACP MKSAP CORE feature is available at no extra cost to ACP MKSAP subscribers.

Artificial Intelligence Resources
Also launching this year, ACP premiered its Artificial Intelligence (AI) Resource Hub featuring curated resources around the timely topic of AI. Included on the hub are tools in medical practice, medical education, an ACP policy position paper, and other related resources.
Our new course, “Generative AI for Internal Medicine Physicians” created with Adam Rodman, MD, MPH, FACP from Harvard Medical School, explores the capabilities and applications of generative AI in health care, offering hands-on practice and insights into how large language models impact clinical practice.
Tools and resources include:
- Obesity Management Conversation Tool: In ten–minute consultations, ACP members can use speech or text to practice patient communication strategies with three simulated online patients.
- DynaMedex ™ with Dyna AI: – Quickly obtain concise, evidence-based clinical information. Dyna AI is an advanced search tool that sources answers exclusively from DynaMedex.
- On-Demand Webinar: Harnessing AI as a Tool for Health Equity – Gain insights into AI’s potential to address health disparities.

Countering Medical Misinformation and Disinformation and Promoting Reputable Content
ACP is committed to stopping and preventing the spread of disinformation and misinformation and vigorously supports the use of science and scientific expertise based on the best available evidence. ACP has resources to help communicate and deliver accurate, fact-driven health care information to patients and communities; respond to different health narratives; identify and interpret reliable information; and help communicate about evidence-based, personally appropriate health decisions.
ACP Continues to Advance Equitable Obesity Care
ACP launched an innovative new Obesity Management Conversations Tool that helps ACP members practice applying counseling concepts learned in Obesity Management 1: Lifestyle Modification to enhance their communication skills when counseling on weight management. The tool offers the opportunity to practice real-time conversations with a simulated patient; apply the 5As framework (ask, assess, advise, agree, and assist) under the pressure of a realistic 10-minute session; and gain valuable, individualized feedback with evidence-based insights to refine your approach and opportunities to practice again with other patient scenarios.
The ACP Obesity Management Learning Hub provides more on the Conversations Tool and other related resources.
New this year, ACP awarded $260,000 in grants to support regional programs that address equity challenges in obesity care. Thirteen grantees were each awarded $20,000 to implement collaborative regional outreach projects through our initiative Advancing Equitable Obesity Care through Regional Action Grants.
Also, as part of our commitment to improving obesity care, ACP and its Council of Subspecialty Societies (CSS) held a summit in 2023 and published a summary report in Annals of Internal Medicine, Unifying Efforts to Empower Equitable Obesity Care: Synopsis of an American College of Physicians and Council of Subspecialty Societies Summit.
